Description

*Historical Significance

This is a very rare German WWII 81mm Granatwerfer Model of 1934 Mortar Kit, commonly abbreviated GrW-34. This mortar was the workhorse of the German army (Wehrmacht Heer) infantry units from 1934 to 1945. Due to this being the standard mortar of the German army for over a decade, it was produced in huge numbers —– over 75,000 were built for World War II.

Superior Craftsmanship- German WWII 81mm Granatwerfer Model of 1934 Mortar Kit

When assembled, the mortar weighs 136 pounds. This mortar comes with its baseplate, bipod, tube/barrel, cup/receiver, and firing pin. Everything has been restored cosmetically and functionally, so all components work as they should. The bipod and baseplate are original German WWII production. The original barrel and receiver were destroyed at the time of importation into the United States, so we machined a new barrel and receiver that are virtually identical to the originals. The barrel was machined from 4130 chrome-moly cold drawn seamless steel, and the receivers were machined from a solid piece of 4140 chrome-moly steel. The barrel’s caliber actually measures 82mm, so they can accommodate 81mm or 82mm ammunition. If using 81mm ammunition, we strongly recommend using obturating rings with the rounds, as this will greatly reduce gas blowby and provide a high degree of shot-to-shot consistency with pressure, velocity, and range. There are only a small handful of live-firing GrW-34 mortars in the United States.

Important Notice

This mortar is being sold in kit form, which means it is not being sold as a registered destructive device. This is a stepped transaction, which means you pay for the entire kit upfront and we ship everything to you but the cup (receiver) and the tube (barrel). The cup, which is the firearm receiver, must be shipped to an FFL licensee within your state. This will transfer as a standard Title 1 firearm receiver, no different than a standard rifle, shotgun, or handgun. You will go to your dealer and fill out the standard 4473 over-the-counter firearms transaction record. Once the receiver is in your possession, you will need to fill out and submit a Form 1 (application to make and register an NFA firearm) to the BATFE, requesting permission to make a destructive device. Once you have received the approved Form 1 back from the ATF, you will provide us a copy of the Form 1 for our records, and then the tube/barrel will be shipped directly to you. Engraving services are available if you would like us to engrave your maker information on the cup after your Form 1 has been approved. All NFA rules apply.

The cup screws onto the base of the tube, and you now have a complete, legally registered, destructive device. The 81mm/82mm rounds that are fired out of the GrW-34 use a special 12-gauge shotgun blank to launch the mortar projectile out of the barrel. These 12-gauge blanks are available for purchase on our website Here. Pictures are stock images of our inventory. Unless otherwise noted, you will not receive the exact item shown in the pictures.
